I’m currently enjoying a long weekend. I had yesterday booked off work, so two work colleagues and I went shopping. One of them has a very important weekend coming up and needs to dress to impress. We were so dedicated, I felt like a woman on a mission!

We’re coming up to our next placements at work and I’m excited, but very focused on getting the right placement and gaining the right skills. I’ve spoken to a lot of people lately about career aspirations, and I’m trying to set some wheels in motion to move in the right direction. I feel I’m only just coming to realise where I want to be. I know that at 22 I still have plenty of time to figure it out, but I feel there is a lot of pressure to get it right. The pressure isn’t coming from parents, friends, or colleagues, but the realisation that I’m paying off a huge debt and invested 3+ years, it feels like a lot on my shoulders.
I personally believe there is a huge lack in good and affordable careers advice. Throughout school it was completely lacking, at university it’s focused on employability rather than advice on the right employment for you, and now its £75+ for an 1 advice session or a free phone call from the National Careers service- where on earth are you supposed to turn to? It’s a good job I’ve got friends, family and a boyfriend that see and understand my passions and skills, helping point me in the right direction.

A quick side note from the soul searching and future planning. This mood board is inspired my the Karen Millen bag which I got in the sale, I’ve been obsessed with it for a while and now it’s actually mine! I really like the Larsson and Jennings watch too, I’ve been a fan of the brand for a while and treated myself the Saxon Gold watch in December. I’ve seen the Zara jacket in store and it really is gorgeous, it has a sheen to it that makes it smarter than usual bombers. The Zara trousers also come in white which I’m considering for summer, I love the biker details.

Golden Bomber

Jacket – H&M

I’ve woken up feeling a bit better this morning. Yesterday my eyes stung from the moment I got up until I went to bed, I even received the golden compliment ‘you don’t look good’. A long bath and a good book seems to have done some good. Annoyingly it means no excuse for the gym today.

I ordered this gorgeous bomber jacket from H&M after seeing a good discount online (sign up to their mailing list and get 25% off an item). I ordered it in a size 12 because I wanted an oversized fit, yet when it arrived it was tight! (I’ve ordered it again in size 16 which fits much better – yay!) I know that H&M is a Swedish brand and that all Swedes look like gods and goddesses but surely there should be standard sizing that all high street stores work to? Same goes for Topshop, I ordered a pair of boots in size 6 and was confident after trying on a perfect fit size 6 in store. Low and behold when I got them they were far too small. I tried it all on in store and returned it there and then, but by the time I got home all size 7’s are sold out, sods law I suppose. My mum and boyfriend would argue it’s good they’re sold out because I have enough shoes, but I don’t think that’s possible.

Spring shirts and blouses

Version 2

1 – Romwe / 2 – H&M / 3 – H&M / 4 – Zara / 5 – ASOS

I’ve been under the weather all week. I’m hoping a hearty dinner and a bath makes a difference. Putting inspo boards together has been so therapeutic though, definitely taken my mind off the fact that I can’t breathe through my nose, my throat feels like it’s made of razor blades, and I have a cough that wants to kill me. Overdramatic? A little..

With Spring just around the corner I feel like it’s time to prep the wardrobe, and I have seen so many blouses and shirts that I would love to add to my collection. I’ve bought the cute blouse from ASOS, ready for spring and a trip abroad. I’ve also tried on 2 and 3 but neither looked right on me (FYI 3 is longer at the front). Zara’s blouse is next on my hit list, I think it will be great for Spring/ Summer, and good for work and weekend – winner! I love the shirt from Romwe, but I’ve read bad reviews about them so I’m reluctant to go for it, even though it’s super cheap. If anyone has used Romwe please let me know what you think.
I definitely recommend looking at Ode to the Shirt from Warehouse for some great shirt styling!

Which one?

1 shop / 2 shop / 3 shop / 4 shop / 5 shop / 6 shop / 7 shop / 8 shop / 9 shop

For Christmas I got a gift voucher for Debenhams and because I am dedicated to boosting my Boots points, I thought I’d use it for a new handbag instead of make up. Problem is, there are too many beauties to choose from!

5 and 6 look a lot like Phillip Lim bags which makes them super tempting. 7 is lovely too but potentially too small, what do you think? 8 is timeless, but is it too safe? I think 4 is classic and simple but I worry that it will mark easily too. Help! Which is your favourite?

Leather and zips

I woke up at 6:30am this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep, what’s wrong with me, it’s the weekend! I’m heading up to London today though so maybe my body was just too excited to get up and get going. I’m taking Helen out for lunch to thank her for my Christmas present and then meeting Sam after for a little adventure around London.

This an outfit I shot ages ago but I’m still so in love with this skirt. The zip detailing is just the absolute one! If I could, I’d add the little emoji with love heart eyes haha.

I wore this outfit when I went to London with Sam to see Kinky Boots. I would definitely recommend the show, it’s so much fun! Every time we go up to Covent Garden in autumn/winter we always get pie and mash from Battersea Pie, you can’t beat it to warm up a winter’s day.

2015 / Beyond Recall

I have gone back and forth, writing and rewriting this post. I’ve deleted all the edits and I’m starting from blank. I’ll just be up front.

As you can see my posts cut off just after I started my new job, this is partly because I was thrown in at the deep end at work, going back and forth from Somerset (other side of the country from me) for about a month.

During this time, the first week into my new job actually, I found out my mum had breast cancer. As you can imagine, that and a new job sending me across the country took up all my time and my energy. I’m very fortunate to say though the cancer journey hasn’t been as tough as I thought it would be. My mum was lucky to catch it in stage 2; it hadn’t spread, it wasn’t aggressive, and it wasn’t attached to anything. In layman terms this meant the surgery and treatment should be pretty simple and straight forward.

I’m happy to say everything so far has gone amazingly! The surgery was set up to be such a success that student doctors were invited to watch as an example of the perfect surgery, and how to leave virtually no scar and need no reconstruction, and the surgeon lived up to expectations! The success of the surgery got even better when they confirmed my mum would only need radiotherapy and no chemotherapy. So fortunately I ended 2015 on a very big high. So after the bump in the road I feel like I can get back to my blog, and being the lovely boy my boyfriend is he bought me my first camera to introduce me back to my blog!

So to celebrate my families ability to overcome the last minute test 2015 sent me, here are some of my highlights from 2015.

In February my boyfriend took me to Cambridge for valentines. We went punting which I’ve wanted to do for ages! Cambridge is such a beautiful city, not even the cold could ruin it.

In June we went for champagne and afternoon tea at Wivenhoe House in Essex, it is beautiful there and next to my old uni which gave me massive uni blues. I miss university!

We also went to Royal Ascot with his family and sister’s boyfriend, oh my goodness it was so much fun with so many beautiful people! I also got very lucky that day with a lot of winning horses, beginners luck?

In August, I reunited with two of my university housemates who I missed so so much. We all met in Edinburgh where Helen had just finished her Masters and her play was being shown during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival! It was excellent, Lucy cried with pride at the end haha. What a bunch of blondes we are!

In July, my boyfriend, his sister, her boyfriend and I all went to Menorca for a week. It was so nice to get away for a week after all my job worries. At this point I’d left a fun, young job in HR with great people, for a new job in a different sector, different industry, different everything and I wasn’t exactly loving life as much. I was in absolute limbo, not knowing what I wanted to do, so I am forever grateful for the job I have now because it lets me figure it out!

September, what a month! My boyfriend and I went to Vienna, Salzburg, Zurich and Geneva. Salzburg was our favourite by far! Café Tomaselli (top right) is my favourite cafe in the whole entire world, the menu is top notch- who doesn’t want a Prosecco breakfast? They also have a desert tray to die for. I really want to go back to Salzburg, it was so beautiful and chilled, maybe we’ll go back one Christmas time… We saw them setting up for Oktoberfest there, it looked great but unfortunately we had to move on to Zurich, so maybe go back for Oktoberfest! In Geneva we met up with a friend from university who is living and working out there, Geneva was lovely too. We went on a hike, which I can’t lie, I didn’t enjoy during the process but at the end I was so happy we’d done it, the views were amazing. I have to say as well, Geneva has the absolute best trainer shops I’ve ever seen. Cheaper than in the UK when you consider the conversion rate, which is shocking considering everything else costs the earth out there haha.

In November, my cousins, my boyfriend and I all went up to Leeds to visit my brother, cousin, and boyfriend’s sister. Its so good they’re all up there together. I had such a good time and round 2 is on the cards for 2016. It’s rare we get all be together because my eldest cousin spends his time doing ski seasons. He was inbetween Canada and Japan when we all went to Leeds.

In December my amazing best friend was project lead for an event for her course. She was tasked, with her group, to organise an event for Teenage Cancer Trust event and it went amazingly. They even had a Victoria Beckham coat, jeans and 2 tops in the silent auction! That night over £8,000 was raised, absolutely incredible. So proud of her, great cause too!

In December my boyfriend and I went to watch Elf in Mumu’s retro cinema that is better known for being a bar by night. Definitely got me into the festive spirit and much cheaper than the London cinemas!

This is the only half decent photo taken on New Years Eve, although my boyfriend will argue its not decent of him ha. It was a lovely end to 2015, with lovely company.

My new years resolution is that my blog will be maintained, come rain or shine. I hope you enjoy all my blog has to come. Happy belated new year everyone xxx

Sleeveless Jacket – Miss Selfridge / Top – Zara / Skirt – ASOS / Trainers – Nike / Bag – Zara

I snapped this outfit before I went away. It was the first outfit I wore my bargain Nike’s with; they were £21 from an outlet store in Essex, how fab is that! Also, I got 15% off Nike’s online store for a year with my receipt, it honestly gets no more generous than that!

I had my first day on my graduate scheme today, woo! It was good fun and all the graduates were lovely. I feel so happy that I’m finally on the grad scheme I’ve waited so long for. Although I don’t know what I want to do as a career this graduate scheme gives me the flexibility to figure that out; you do four 6 months placements and if you find a job you want with them along the way you can ‘hop off’ the scheme. Even if you ‘hop off’ you can continue with the 2 management qualifications that the grad scheme offers, how great! Such a supportive environment, so happy to be a part of it! Now, what to wear to work tomorrow?

I’ve still got lots of inter-railing snaps, they’ll be up soon!
